Why Marigold
We are quality-obsessed
Marigold’s process begins and ends with quality
To bring you the best coffees, our job begins with the selection of high quality, unique green coffees, purchased when they’re at their seasonal best. Just as your local farmer’s market features produce according to the time of year, coffee has similar variety and seasonality. The alchemy of soil, climate, farming technique, post-harvest handling, roasting and finally, brew method all contribute to the final product in your cup.
Constant refinement, continual enjoyment (Roasting)
We roast and cup each new coffee over and over till we get it right. Quality roasting requires constant adjustment, refinement and patience to stay focused on the details. Our technique is to draw out flavors by applying the scientific method of trial and error. There’s also an art to bringing out the magic of each new single origin or blend we create. There's no end point or fixed goal in coffee as the product always changes, and we change with it.
We are community-driven
We source our coffee from farms and co-ops across the world and place a high premium on traceability and fair pricing at every step of the process. We support other small businesses by committing to equitable trade practices as we are a small business ourselves. And while we are a small business we believe in making an outsized contribution to our community. Marigold regularly contributes to local nonprofits such as Street Roots, Nightwatch, Voz and others whenever possible.
We also enjoy serving coffee to our neighbors in Portland and are planning to open a cafe in our SE roastery (at the Buckman Coffee Factory) soon!
We are women-owned
We're two sisters and a women-owned business who care deeply about the coffee industry, our employees and the community we come in contact with. We seek out and support other women in business knowing that a rising tide lifts all boats.
